Finally, A Plant Based Complete Protein that tastes GREAT March 7, 2010 Cheffy (NC) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
All from sprouted grains, completely organic, NO Soy, No Garbage. This powder is very fine, mixes easily and has a delightful nutty aroma to it. While I would not recommend drinking it plain, I mix it with Almond Milk, some organic unsweetened cocoa powder and a touch of honey, and the result is a wonderful nutty chocolate drink that is fabulous, and so filling. I don't get the intestinal issues that other protein powders can give you, and I stay full on it for 3 hours or more. and at only 80 calories, what a bargain! It's about time someone started paying attention to what people are looking for in regards to sound nutrtion. I am very thankful that this product is available to us that want quality protein sources without consuming a bunch of foreign ingredients and fillers.
Really Good Stuff! March 29, 2010 Xenabyte (Colorado) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I've tried ALOT of protein powders and this one fits all my needs (gluten, dairy and soy free...and no sweeteners...plus it has probiotics and enzymes!!!). I mix it with SoDelicious 'Coconut milk' beverage and it rocks! For additional flavor I sometimes mix in a packet of Orange or Tangerine Emergen'c fizzy vitamin powder and WOW...yummy! In a pinch, I mix with just some water and shake it up really hard and drink it down. Not too bad...I've tasted much worse stuff mixed with just plain water! haha Again, the Emergen'c packets really help give it more flavor if you want to use just water.
If I have time, I blend it with almond or coconut milk and some fruit (Favorite is banana and/or strawberry). Organic raw chocolate powder and a bit of Agave or Stevia and some ice cubes and I feel like I have a healthy chocolate milk shake! I will be buying this in bulk!!
The Best! April 2, 2010 Beach Reader 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is the best protein I have ever tried! It always amazes me how people want 'all natural' and then expect sugary sweet, artificially flavored & textured. Makes no sense! I am a distance runner, don't eat meat of any kind and recently found out that I shouldn't consume whey/dairy, or soy. Even when I was using other protein powders they always had too much 'junk' in them and were sky high in sodium, even when there was no taste. When mixed with almond milk I think this tastes great! It tastes all natural and junk free, just as it is supposed to. I am so thankful Garden of Life makes such a pure, organic product!
Fantastic! I love it February 26, 2010 Johnny Cornell (Seattle, WA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Vegan protein powder is here. It tastes weird with just soy milk, very plant like. But I mix it with juice and it's just fine. I've actually grown to like it. The powder is so fine that it is never chunky which is a huge plus(shaken). It's semi expensive but it's worth it with all the stuff it includes. I absolutely enjoy this product.
Finally, a Protein Powder that WORKS WELL - Gluten Intolerant May 14, 2010 L. Bernstein (Indiana) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have highly-sensitive gluten-intolerance. Other protein powders I've tried gave me gluten reactions which include intense body aches and horrible digestive, gastro-intestinal problems.
Garden of Life works beautifully for me -- it fills me AND satisfies me, gives me energy, and I have no reactions or GI issues with it at all.
I especially appreciate Raw Protein if I am traveling and cannot find anything safe to eat. By always having the powder on hand along with some gluten-free fruit or vegetable juice, I'm covered.
The powder is also helpful if I'm in a hurry and don't have time to prepare a full, gluten-free meal (which can be very time consuming since I try to stick to whole foods only).
Also, a little powder mixed with juice is a nice pick-me-up between meals, especially in the late afternoon or early evening -- you know that time of day when you're not ready to eat dinner (or too tired after working to cook), yet you're hungry NOW? I don't know about you, but snacking between meals is when I have the greatest tendency to overeat.
Because the powder is so nutritionally balanced, it satisfies me and gets me through to a light dinner MUCH easier than if I were reaching for other foods.
So far, I've enjoyed mixing it in a Vita-Mix with a little ice, pineapple and/or banana. Frozen banana works particularly well. If I'm not making a smoothie, I use an Aerolatte Moo frother to mix it right in the glass or cup (Bodum also makes a frother that is supposed to be excellent).
Today for lunch, I mixed it into organic, gluten-free tomato soup, and I really enjoyed it. I've even mixed the powder with coffee!
Flavor: I don't really detect much "flavor" at all. It tastes neutral and takes on the flavor of whatever you mix with it. The texture, however, could be better. It has a mouth feel that's just a little like mixing flour with water (note: NO flour is in this, it is completely gluten-free - I'm just using "flour" to describe how it feels in your mouth). Like I said, it feels that way "just a little" -- for me, it's a minor thing.
Raw Protein is a wonderful blessing. It makes me feel good when I drink it -- it fills me and gives me a sense of well-being that I'm not getting from most foods right now, perhaps due to my still having problems with my body properly assimilating everything I eat. If you have gluten-intolerance, you probably know what I mean: it's that satisfied, clean (meaning no GI issues to worry about)feeling.
I am very, VERY happy to have found this product.
Two sidenotes:
1- I wish it were available on Amazon.com with PRIME shipping. If it were, I'd buy it here rather than elsewhere.
2- Garden of Life should ask the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America to certify their product as gluten-free. More and more celiac and gluten-intolerant folks want to but products that are less that 10 gluten parts-per-million. This product probably is, or I would react to it, so the company might as well get the certification. For me, certification is the gluten-free gold standard for what-to-buy.
