Like other Hammer products, it works April 21, 2010 Will Murphy (Hollywood, FL United States) HEED is an electrolyte replacement drink, in the same category as Gatorade and Powerade. However, HEED uses mainly complex carbs, rather than simple sugars like most competitive products. I find this makes it easy to digest with no stomach issues.
It also has a more complete electrolyte profile than many competitive products, which are heavy on sodium and have little to none of the other electrolytes.
The first several times I used HEED I did not like the taste at all. Now that I am accustomed to it, I like it fine. So if you are used to sugary drinks, expect an adjustment period for the taste.
It comes in several flavors. As with everything, try it in training. I think you'll find it is something you want to use for racing, too, if you race.
Great for long distance hiking. May 9, 2010 Anthony Biegen (Santa Barbara, CA USA) I bought this product because I was hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up the 20+ mile pace for long. Using this product along with Hammer's Perpetuem I was able to hike 21, 23, 24, 25, 22, 26, etc. miles per day consecutively without running out of energy or feeling ill effects the next morning. I will continue to use Hammer's great products.
Stamina Supporting, All Natural, and Not Too Sweet July 20, 2010 HTBK (San Francisco, CA USA) I was looking for a sports drink to help during Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program and P90X Extreme Home Fitness Workout Program - 13 DVDs, Nutrition Guide, Exercise Planner (especially Plyo). Most sports drinks are too sweet, full of junk, and loaded with sugar.
Hammer HEED has a nearly cultlike following, especially amongst hardcore bicyclists, and it's easy to see why once you try it. It's all natural with sugar substitutes, so you're not drinking junk, which always seemed counterproductive to me considering you're generally drinking these products while trying to stay healthy. It really does help with your stamina - it's not going to make you able to run a marathon out of nowhere, of course, it's not magic, but it definitely helped me last longer before bonking in more intense workouts. And best of all, the flavor is light, so you're not drinking something heavy that weighs your stomach down while you're trying to work out.
I am definitely going to keep a supply of this in the cabinet going forward.
Great Un-Marketed Product For Runs March 3, 2010 Kevin 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Heed is not advertised like Gatorade and such, so you don't hear much about it. But that doesn't mean it's because Heed is a bad product. This stuff is healthier than gatorade and more potent (as far as clean energy). The taste is subtle, and the drink doesn't fill you up. I drink one 16oz Heed for each long run I have (runs of 7+ miles). These is a noticeable difference in my energy levels with and without the Heed. My favorite flavors are Mandarin and Melon. The Strawberry is a bit too strong for my liking. The price is solid considering a 20oz gatorade is anywhere from $1.00-$2.00 in stores.
This product gets 5/5 for serious runners/trainers.
Great Choice for an Energy Drink May 22, 2009 pafmarwak (OR) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I switched to Hammer from other carb drinks. I'm on my 2nd. 32 oz powder container of HEED Unflavored Mix. I'm a walker and train for several hours during the week for marathon walks. This energy drink 'never' gives me cramps, side aches or nausea. I carry a fanny pack with two bottles: one with a couple of scoops of HEED mixed with water and a 2nd. bottle of plain water. That plus a few packs of Hammer GEL and I'm good to go.
